Dolby Vision coming to Xbox One consoles

HDR streaming format is being supported in a new update

Microsoft is bringing Dolby Vision streaming to its 4K-ready Xbox One consoles, allowing users to watch Netflix in the 12-bit high-dynamic-range format.

The Xbox One S and Xbox One X have supported the HDR10 format since their respective launches.

System Update 1810 is currently only available to those in the Xbox Insiders preview program, and is being fully rolled out to all users over the coming weeks.

Dolby Vision is an HDR format for 4K TVs that uses metadata to optimise the image frame-by-frame, providing enhanced brightness and colour.

While the Dolby Atmos audio format is already supported on Xbox for video games, support for Dolby Vision in a gaming capacity looks to be in the pipeline still.
