Apple Vision Pro confirms Dolby Vision HDR content

The headset features a pair of ultra-high-resolution micro-OLED displays, creating 23 million pixels with wide colour, high dynamic range, and Dolby Vision

Apple has revealed some of the technology details behind its new Apple Vision Pro, which goes on sale in the United States on 2nd February.

The company has confirmed for the first time that the headset will support Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos for audio.

The headset features a pair of ultra-high-resolution micro-OLED displays, creating 23 million pixels with wide colour, high dynamic range, and Dolby Vision.

The brand-new R1 chip streams images to each display every 12 milliseconds, some 8x faster than the blink of an eye, added the company.

Users will also be able to download and stream TV shows, films, sports, and more from Disney+, ESPN, NBA, MLB, PGA Tour, Max, Discovery+, Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+, Peacock, Pluto TV, Tubi, Fubo, Crunchyroll, Red Bull TV, IMAX, TikTok, and MUBI. Users can also watch online and streaming video using Safari and other browsers, said Apple.

Audiences will be able to watch Disney content in 3D as the company is employing Multiview High Efficiency Video Coding (MV-HEVC), to deliver UHD resolution in HDR.

According to Disney, the integration of Disney+ on Apple Vision Pro is the result of innovation and collaboration between multiple technology teams at the company, including Disney Studio Technology, Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology, ILM Immersive, and Skywalker Sound.
