Panasonic introduces four new 4K professional camcorders

Featuring IP connectivity, the cameras aim to provide an end-to-end solution for on-location filming, production and distribution

Panasonic has unveiled a new range of 4K professional camcorders.

Developed to meet the needs of on-location filming teams, Panasonic Connect’s new 4K 60p 10bit camcorders aim to provide an end-to-end solution for filming, production and distribution, said the company.

Featuring a compact and lightweight design, all four cameras include both Optical and Electric Image Stabilisation to correct camera shake through five axes, said the company. A Face Detection AF/AE setting enables precise focusing and exposure when shooting in both 4K and FHD. Integrated 25mm wide angle to 600mm telephoto zoom lens with 24x optical zoom is offered across the range, along with a 4-Drive Lens System independently operating each lens group in addition to two manual focus rings.

The high-end AG-CX20 and AG-CX18 models support Real-Time Messaging Protocol (RTMP) enabling live streaming to social media and video sharing platforms. The CX20 supports full-HD live streaming through IP-based SRT protocol and, along with the CX18, delivers simultaneous SDI/HDMI outputs. CX20 also supports NDI HX2 IP connectivity enabling network environment live streaming without the need for external converters.

All four models, AG-CX20, AG-CX18 and the HC-X1600 and HC-X1200 feature: high resolution OLED viewfinders with larger eyecups, USB-C port, low bitrate recording for FHD and MP4 shooting, supporting 28 Mbps, 24 Mbps, and 20 Mbps, improved low-speed zoom rates, enhanced network functionality supporting WiFi 5GHz and USB tethering, Ethernet and wired-LAN connectivity, enhanced operability with HC-ROP mobile application, compact long-life batteries, 3.5-inch high-resolution touchscreen and 2 SD card slots.

Multiple bit rates and formats are supported and when configured for 10 bit recording with an HDMI output, all four cameras deliver 4K 60p 4:2:2 output with an external recorder. All support the MOV, MP4 and AVCHD formats, with the CX20 supporting the P2 MXF workflow.

Andre Meterian, director of professional video systems for Panasonic Connect Europe, commented, “Whether they’re shooting on location or streaming live video, directors and video content creators increasingly require an all-in-one solution. Our new range of camcorders draws on our decades of expertise and knowledge of increasing user-friendliness and functionality for professionals, from the smallest ergonomic refinements, to developing unparalleled optical technology that can seamlessly shoot and distribute 4K video over IP-based networks; we are putting incredible power and flexibility into the hands of creative professionals.”
