Sony has announced the launch of a new camera series. Featuring five new cameras, the HDC-5500R, HDC-5500RV, HDC-3500R, HDC-3500RV and HDC-3200R, the R Series aims to deliver4 interoperable system expandability for 4K and HDR live production.
The new models incorporate features of the multi-format HDC-5000 and HDC-3000 such as high-quality 4K shooting, wider dynamic range, and no rolling shutter distortion. Additionally, the HDC-5500RV and HDC-5500R support 4K high frame rate shooting, UHB (Ultra High Bitrate) transmission, and 12G-SDI.
Designed to enhance natural and three-dimensional capture in challenging lighting conditions with mixed sunlight and shadows, an S/N ratio of -64dB enables condition-based sensitivity selection while reducing white clipping by maintaining balance between dynamic range and sensitivity.
With the new HKCU-LUT35 option board installed, the HDC-3500R, HDC-3500RV and HDC-3200R can connect to camera control units enabling operation with 3D LUTs allowing advanced colour adjustments. Supporting S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3.Cine wide colour gamut modes, the HDC-3200R allows more precise colour matching during multi-camera operations with different models.
HDC-5500R and HDC-5500RV support video trunk with two 1.5G SDI lines, while HDC-3500R and HDC-3500RV support the new HB+ transmission method, enabling video trunk and prompter with one 3G SDI line or two 1.5G SDI lines.
Video trunk enables the transmission of signals from different video equipment leveraging fibre optic cables, increasing efficiency in system setup. In prompter transmission, simultaneous transmission of on-air and multi-monitor footage utilising two 1.5G SDI lines allows the operator to check multiple camera angles, reducing the need for wiring work.
Additionally, HDC-3200R supports network trunk with a maximum of 1Gbps, allowing signals such as camera trackers and IP teleprompter signals to be transmitted using the fibre cable between camera and CCU.
The HDC-5500R, HDC-5500RV, HDC-3500R, and HDC-3500RV feature a standard slide mechanism for a large viewfinder that can accommodate the 7.4-inch OLED HDVF-EL760 colour viewfinder.
The latest intercom operation panel will also be applied to the HDC-5500R, HDC-5500RV, HDC-3500R, and HDC-3500RV, enabling unified operability in environments with mixed models.
