Proton Camera Innovations has announced the release of its PROTON 4K lightweight camera.
More than two times smaller than its closest competitor, the PROTON 4K measures 28mm x 28mm x 33mm, making it the smallest 4K broadcast-quality camera in the world, said the German company.
Built around Proton’s proprietary POLARIS imaging chip, the camera features a 97° wide-angle view and offers additional lenses from 35° to 124°, aiming to provide distortion-free visuals across a range of shooting conditions.
Weighing only 37g, PROTON 4K has a¼’’ thread to enable ease of mounting for drones, remote mounts and portable rigs which, coupled with ultra-low 6W power consumption, aims to provide versatility for a variety of operators. Advanced low-light performance, vibrant colour accuracy and onboard stereo audio and tally light enable efficient in-the-moment production, said the company.
PROTON 4K surpasses HD resolution and is positioned for a number of use cases including major sporting events. Interest has been shown by a major UK broadcaster for natural history and wildlife documentaries.
Marko Hoepken, CEO of Proton Camera Innovations, said, “We’ve received incredible feedback from early adopters who are keen to move into 4K production. At the price we have been able to offer, we represent a far more scalable and flexible proposition than our competitors: entry-level production companies are able to futureproof their setups and become 4K ready, whilst major global broadcasters and sports events are able to kit out production trucks with multiple units, remaining confident of the build quality, reliability and usability that they have already come to expect in Proton cameras. The new PROTON 4K is a truly a game-changer in miniaturised, high-resolution production.”
PROTON 4K will be debuted at the Hamburg Open.
