Panasonic Connect Europe has announced the launch of a new 4K multi-purpose camera and unveiled a world first auto-focus function.
Scheduled for launch in Q4 2025, the company’s AK-UBX100 4K multi-purpose camera aims to enhance flexibility and precision across a diverse range of production environments. The solution features the same 2/3-type bayonet lens mount sensor and processing platform as the company’s UCX100, enabling consistent colour matching and operation for devices such as the AW-UE160 PTZ camera.
A unified menu interface and compatibility with a range of remote operation panels (ROP) aims to ensure intuitive control across setups while interoperability with the UCX100 and UE160 enables streamlined workflows ideal for a multi-camera environment, said Panasonic.
Supporting a wide range of IP protocols, including SMPTE ST 2110, NDI High-Bandwidth and NDI HXT and SRT, the camera offers robust connectivity via dual 12G-SDI and SFP+/28 ports. Suppression is enhanced by an HD optical low pass filter and auto-focus functionality will be offered as a firmware update in 2026.
Auto-focus for 2/3-type 4K studio cameras
In what Panasonic said marks a world first, the company also announced its UCX100 will be the first 2/3-type 4K studio camera to support auto-focus, ahead of the UBX100. The innovation aims to address increasing requirements for consistent image quality where production demands exceed the limits of manual shooting, such as LED walls, projectors and environments with advanced lighting.
Automatic correction for F-drop and peripheral light falloff minimise exposure inconsistencies while remote back focus adjustment allows fine-tuning of focus from a distance, accelerating setup and reducing complexity.
Further planned function enhancements include Low Skew Mode, enhancing image quality in fast-paced or high-motion productions and expanded Video TRUNK functionality with support for 12G-SDI output.
André Meterian, MD for Europe, Russia/CIS, Middle East & Africa (EMEA), broadcast & ProAV, said, “Panasonic remains committed to driving innovation in video production, delivering high-quality tools that meet the diverse needs of video creators worldwide. Panasonic’s support extends right from concept to capture, giving creators the freedom to explore, experiment, and deliver professional-grade content, regardless of their technical background or the complexity of the filming environment.
