AFCON scores in 4K thanks to Globecast

Final to be broadcast globally in 4K

The final of this year’s Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) football tournament will be broadcast in 4K using HEVC encoding.

Globecast has partnered with the Egyptian Local Organising Committee (LOC), Lagardère Sports, managers and marketers of sports rights across Europe and Africa, and the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) to broadcast both the first match of the tournament and the final between Senegal and Algeria in 4K.

Globecast has also provided the tournament organisers with VoD content preparation and storage as well as contribution and distribution.

At each stadium, Globecast has supplied two flyaway SNGs. The first uplinks the main feed, plus a second feed with additional pre-match footage to build more involvement in the event. The second SDNG has provided full redundancy. The primary feeds have been received at Globecast’s Paris teleport and then turned around for onward distribution. The backup feed has been sent to London.
