Beamr integrates NVIDIA technology to turn HD content into 4K

The company is combining NVIDIA Video Super Resolution with its content-adaptive bitrate (CABR) encoding into existing production and delivery chains

Video optimisation company Beamr is to introduce AI upscaling for live sports, broadcast, and streaming to turn HD feeds into 4K viewing experiences.

The company is combining NVIDIA Video Super Resolution with its content-adaptive bitrate (CABR) encoding into existing production and delivery chains.

NVIDIA Video Super Resolution upscales HD sources inside the production chain, while Beamr’s CABR encoding then delivers the result in streams up to 50 per cent smaller than standard encoding, said the company. The entire pipeline runs end-to-end on NVIDIA RTX PRO GPUs and can be deployed in the cloud or on-premises.

Beamr’s quality testing platform VISTA validates output quality through subjective viewer testing, measuring whether audiences actually perceive an improvement.

“There is a widening gap between the quality viewers expect and the quality live production economics can afford,” said Sharon Carmel, CEO of Beamr. “Together with NVIDIA, we are closing that gap.

“Upscaling only makes sense if viewers can see the difference and the delivery costs can’t. We built the tools that verify the first and take care of the second.”
