Spain’s Telefonica testing 4K Olympics channel

Movistar is carrying out tests in conjunction with Eurosport

Spanish telco Telefonica is trialling a new 4K channel that could launch in time for the start of Tokyo 2020.

Local website ADSL Zone reports the channel will be available to Movistar Fusion viewers who have the company’s 4K set top box.

Telefonica confirmed the tests are being carried out in conjunction with Eurosport, which suggests the new channel could carry Eurosport’s 4K feed.

Around one million Spanish homes have the Movistar 4K STB, which already carries four 4K channels: Movistar LaLiga UHD, LaLiga 1 UHD, Liga de Campeones UHD and DAZN F1 4K.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games begin on Friday 23rd July.
