SVT, Sweden’s public broadcaster, has won the EBU Technology and Innovation Award 2026 for its software-defined live production platform.
Neo, which was used at the 2026 Winter Olympics, is a fully software-based production system that ran 10 parallel production environments and OTT channels during the Games.
“This award is a recognition of what can happen when talented people work together across disciplines with a shared vision,” said Dennis Buhr, head of production technology and workflows at SVT, who led the project.
“At SVT, innovation is not a project; it is part of how we build the production future of public service. This award belongs to everyone at SVT who has contributed to this journey, and I am proud to accept it on behalf of all the teams who helped make it possible.”
CBC/Radio-Canada was named runner up for its Dynamic Streaming tool. The tool is a real-world deployment of the EBU Dynamic Media Facility (DMF) Reference Architecture and enables a single operator, working from a web interface on a laptop, to augment Olympic Broadcast Services streams with commentary, graphics and ad breaks.
The other runner-up was France Télévisions, for Alix, a multi-cloud, open-source platform that brings IT and media workflows onto a single Kubernetes foundation.
Delphine Roussel-Galle, an AI engineer at France Télévisions, won the 2026 Young Technology Talent Award. Her work applies AI to practical newsroom and editorial tools and shows the value of graduate-level engineering talent for the future of media technology.
New EBU Technical Committee and chair elected
Members of the EBU have elected a new chair of the organisation’s Technical Committee. Brian Wynne, head of technology infrastructure at RTÉ, will take over from Michael Eberhard, chief technology officer at ARD/SWR. Simon Tuff from the BBC and Sasha Schwoll from SWR/ARD were elected as vice-chairs.
The other members of the committee are Skander Ben Attia, FTV, France; Morten Brandstrup, TV2, Denmark; Deividas Grabauskas, LRT, Lithuania; Dima Khilchenko, Suspilne, Ukraine; Harald Kräuter, ORF, Austria; Vittoria Mignone, RAI, Italy; Mónica Palomo, RTP, Portugal; Ivana Prpić, HRT, Croatia; Víctor Sánchez, RTVE, Spain; and Lieven Vermaele, VRT, Belgium.
