Ziggo Sport trials AR commentary on El Clasico

Commentator Sierd de Vos will provide additional content for viewers who access the AR content via their smartphones

Ziggo Sport will trial augmented reality commentary on its coverage of this weekend’s El Clasico match between Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Commentator Sierd de Vos will provide additional content for viewers who access the AR content via their smartphones.

Fans can download Ziggo’s app and scan a QR code to see and hear de Vos in augmented reality. He will joined during the match by former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal.

“The way we watch television is changing. Ziggo Sport is continuously innovating to offer consumers the best viewing experience anytime, anywhere,” said Will Moerer, director of Ziggo Sport. “Mobile AR is an extremely suitable way to enrich traditional TV viewing. In the future, for example, you could view 3D circuits or setups with live statistics on your coffee table, simply from your mobile phone.”

Ziggo has previously employed AR in its Formula One coverage, creating a virtual pit box during Formula 1 races and a recent live interview with Max Verstappen in Monaco where he appeared in the studio in the Netherlands via AR.
