The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has announced an expansion of Eurovision Sport onto Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television (FAST) services in the UK, marking the latest phase in its digital growth strategy.
The UK launch across Free Live Sports (FLS), Flex, Samsung TV Plus and Amazon Live forms the first FAST deployment as the organisation continues to explore opportunities across and beyond the continent.
Launched in 2024, the EBU’s first direct-to-consumer sports streaming service was created to ensure universal accessibility in an increasingly fragmented media landscape, with thousands of hours of live and on-demand coverage streamed from EBU Member public service broadcasters. The FAST rollout aims to extend the discoverability of Olympic and emerging sports beyond traditional broadcast and app environments, said the organisation, with new opportunities created for media partners, rights holders and federations.
In addition to streaming a wide range of international events including athletics, aquatics, cycling, football, gymnastics, winter sports and Paralympic disciplines, the platform acts as a testing ground for sports broadcasting innovation such as AI-powered multilingual commentary and live subtitling. Designed to complement rather than compete with national broadcaster coverage, Eurovision Sport enables Members to combine free-to-air reach with year-round digital engagement and live coverage across all sessions and disciplines.
Alan Fagan, MD, Eurovision Sport, said, “This is about much more than just launching a channel on another platform. FAST distribution allows us to place free sport directly into environments where audiences are already spending their time and increasingly discovering content. Eurovision Sport was built to complement the broadcasts of our EBU Members and ensure that free access to sport continues in the digital era. Expanding onto FAST is a natural next step in that strategy.”
