Virgin Media is set to launch a new 4K set-top box in the second half of 2016.

The new box will have an upgraded user interface, and will be based on the TiVo platform.

The upcoming launch was announced in Virgin Media’s first quarter financial results for 2016.

Tom Mockridge, Virgin Media CEO, said, “I will just say we are committed in the second half of this year to deploy in the United Kingdom, we put some TiVo software on it, but that will give us a lot more functionality for our customers.”

Sky Q, which is likely to rival the forthcoming release, possesses ultra high-definition video with the ability to pause and resume viewing on different devices, so it is likely that Virgin will mirror those key selling points in it’s own product.

Full details are not expected to be disclosed until a later date.
