Telecom Italia testing VR via 5G during Giro d’Italia

Company is installing 360-degree cameras during the time trial on 19th May

Telecom Italia has announced plans to test its 5G network during the Giro d’Italia.

As well as broadcasting the race on its TIMvision platform on the Eurosport Player app, the company is installing 360-degree cameras along the 39 kilometres of the section between Riccione and San Marino on 19th May.

The 360-degree cameras will allow spectators to follow the stage via special virtual reality headsets at TIM’s hospitality area as well as via large screens positioned close to the finish line.

Telecom Italia described the Giro d’Italia as an “opportunity to show the great potential of cycling enthusiasts the potential of the 5G mobile network.”
