XGN Global and X1 have announced the launch of the first commercial 5G Broadcast rugged smartphone.
The companies are initially releasing a European variant of the device, supporting the majority of television frequencies across the continent. A US-specific model will follow in Q3 2026.
In what the partners said is a world first, the device is designed to enable the delivery of high-quality broadcast content in environments where traditional cellular networks may be unavailable, providing direct live television, audio and emergency information to compatible devices without the need for cellular subscription or the consumption of mobile data.
Following successful deployments at the Paris 2024 Olympics and Milano Cortina 2026, where 5G Broadcast enabled resilient delivery of live content to mobile devices, global deployments of the technology are advancing. Later this year, 5G Broadcast is expected to become commercially available in the US, with planned network expansions covering millions of viewers.
The innovation integrates Enensys 5G Broadcast Client, the Cube Agent Mobile, acting as the interface between the chipset and application player, as well as managing the switch between broadcast and unicast modes.
