BMC TV takes racing by the bitrate with Open Broadcast Systems’ 5G Flyaway

The solution aims to ensure robust, high-quality, low-latency 5G coverage goes the distance from trackside to screen

Open Broadcast Systems has revealed BMC TV has deployed its solutions to support coverage of live horse racing. Acting in partnership with RaceTech to transit Arena Racing Company’s live racing events, BMC has selected Open Broadcast Systems’ 5G Flyaway to enable the delivery of high-quality, low latency feeds direct from the tracks, which are often based in remote locations.

The solution aims to provide satellite and fibre picture quality over cellular networks, delivering the low-latency standard Constant Bitrate MPEG Transport Streams necessary for ensuring video quality is maintained. Additionally, the 5G Flyaway’s open nature has enabled its integration into BMC’s contributor network, extending visibility across its video transmission estate, said Open Broadcast Systems.

Designed to meet the requirements of sports broadcasters, 5G Flyaway allows long-distance 5G transmission without the limitations of backpack-style solutions, also providing sub-second encoding and decoding for sites with wired connectivity, added the company.

We needed a solution that was highly reliable and that delivered low latency, and after testing several solutions offering bonded cellular transmission, it was clear that the 5G Flyaway met all of our requirements.”
