ProSiebenSat.1 asks HbbTV viewers to push the button

New red button service gives viewers access to content from ProSieben, SAT.1, kabel eins, sixx, ProSieben MAXX, SAT.1 Gold, and kabel eins Doku

Germany’s ProSiebenSat.1 has launched a new red button portal which allows viewers to continue watching linear TV while browsing extra content.

The new HbbTV service gives viewers access to content from ProSieben, SAT.1, kabel eins, sixx, ProSieben MAXX, SAT.1 Gold, and kabel eins Doku.

Stefanie Lüdecke, co-managing director of ProSiebenSat.1 Digital, said: “We now know very well that viewers’ entertainment needs have become more complex. While our users watch linear TV, they simultaneously have the option to get additional information via HbbTV. With our new red button portals, we have created a first-class content platform and combined the best of the two worlds of TV and internet. We are thereby actively shaping the development of linear TV.”

The company says its HbbTV portals currently reach between 2.7 and 3 million viewers each month, but have a potential of around 12 million viewers.
