Global OTT TV and video revenues will reach $65 billion in 2020, according to the latest Digital TV report.

‘Global OT TV & Video Forecasts’ found that Latin America revenues will nearly triple, with even greater growth expected in Eastern Europe and the Middle East and Africa.

The forecast represents a rapid rise in the OTT revolution, which rose from $4.47 billion in 2010 to $29.41 billion in 2015.

From the additional $35.37 billion forecasted between 2015 and 2021, the report states that Asia Pacific will contribute $12.65 billion, Western Europe $8.25 billion and the US $9 billion.

It predicts that SVoD will become the largest revenue source by 2018, with AVoD regainging pole position by 2020.

There will be 383 million SVoD subscriptions by 2021, the report says, up from 21 million in 2010 and 163 by 2015.

Simon Murray, principal analyst at Digitial TV Research, said, It is important to note that these figures are for gross subscriptions. A home or a person can pay for more than one SVoD platform. This is reasonably commonplace iin some countries such as the US, Scandinavia and the UK.

“Mobile SVoD is growing rapidly in Asia – and will do so in the Middle East and Africa. Mobile broadband is more established than fixed broadband in many developing countries.”
