Netflix launches VFXaaS platform

Cloud-based platform which aims to make it easier for vendors, artists and creators to connect and collaborate

Netflix has launched a new Cloud-based platform which aims to make it easier for vendors, artists and creators to connect and collaborate on visual effects (VFX) for its titles.

A beta version of the NetFX platform is currently in use in Canada with Netflix’s partners Frontier VFX and Galavant VFX.

The company said it hopes to make the platform available in more countries “where infrastructure can be deployed.”

The idea is that NetFX connects vendors, artists and creators from diverse backgrounds and experiences to collaborate creatively on Netflix’s wide range of global content.

The platform provides virtual workstations, integrated storage and full access to secure rendering in a connected environment, which Netflix said allows it to scale and creatively iterate on its VFX work. Vendors will be able to contribute artist resources to optimise capacity and individuals can participate on-demand.
