Vizrt and Girraphic support MMA’s Netflix debut

The workflow aimed to simplify the production process delivering an immersive experience both for fans at the venue and Netflix's live viewers

Vizrt has announced its platform was selected by Girraphic to support the debut Netflix MVP MMA event broadcast live from the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.

Real-time 3D graphics rendering and compositing was handled by Viz Engine 5, combined with Vizrt’s video wall and  multi-screen control platform Viz Multiplay to provide single interface control with the flexibility to deliver for Netflix viewers and fans in the stadium.

Blending pre-rendered animation, live video feeds and real-time broadcast graphics into a unified production workflow, the solution provided viewers with an immersive experience while also lighting up the 18,000 seat arena during the production.

The venue’s Halo Board, LED displays and augmented reality (AR) graphics were designed and operated by Girraphic, a longstanding partner of Vizrt specialising in virtual production and augmented graphic integrations.

Nathan Marsh, CEO at Girraphic, said, “In live sports, you never know what’s going to happen. That anticipation brings fans to the edge of their seats, and visual elements on every screen should meet the magic of the moment. By counting on Vizrt technology, our teams were able to bring our collective vision to life, engaging the Netflix MMA fans in the venue and at home.”

“Every team creating a live sports experience are faced with the same growing challenges: serving multiple audiences, who watch from multiple devices and points of view, at once. This demands incredible creativity and collaboration, so the right technology must be flexible without ever compromising on quality,” said Andrew O’Neil, SVP sports strategy and growth, Vizrt.
