Spain’s three largest broadcasters to launch hybrid TV platform

Shared HbbTV platform will be available to all DTT, free-to-air (FTA) operators

Spanish public broadcasters RTVE, Mediaset and Atresmedia are teaming up to launch a shared HbbTV platform, which will be available to all DTT, free-to-air (FTA) operators.

Once up and running, the hybrid TV platform will gather all the broadcasters’ content in one place.

Additionally, the alliance will develop a similar over-the-top (OTT) platform to distribute the same kind of content through the internet.

“The main goal is to boost content diversity, FTA quality and user experience through HbbTV services and features,” the broadcasters explained.

Up until now, RTVE, along with other regional, public broadcasters, has been the only player to launch a fully operative HbbTV service, Botón Rojo.
