Spanish broadcaster Mediapro is expected to launch a new esports-dedicated OTT service by the end of 2018.
According to reports in the Spanish media, Mediapro is looking to replicate the success of Twitch, but with a Spanish focus.
The new advertising funded OTT service is expected to include live coverage of international tournaments, events and exclusive content.
The platform has been developed entirely by Mediapro and is expected to operate out of the broadcaster’s bases in Barcelona and Madrid. It is expected to launch worldwide, but with a particular focus on Spain and Latin America.
Mediapro is forecasting it could reach an audience of over five million viewers in its first five years. The service is expected to be available on TV as well as via mobile and tablets.
The broadcaster already owns Fandroid, the founder of the Spanish professional esports league LVP, which has 20 million unique users across Spain, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Peru and the UK.
