At IBC2018, JVC’s stand will feature a range of solutions for live IP production, including a number of new camcorder models, based upon JVC’s CONNECTED CAM technology.
The new GY-HC500 and GY-HC550 add to the recently launched GY-HC900 CONNECTED CAM, with the GY-HC500 and GY-HC550 adding revolutionary new IP
connectivity features never previously available in a compact handheld 4K camcorder.
At the JVC booth, JVC’s leadership in IP connectivity is demonstrated also through end-to-end IP production using JVC’s camera streaming technology, the new SFE-CAM-LTEA bonded cellular system, and Streamstar production switchers. Also new this year to the is the BR-DE900 IP decoder, a cost-effective, robust solution for the live decoding of HD or SD IP streams.
Newly announced at IBC2018, the two new models in the CONNECTED CAM range offer unparalleled IP connectivity in a handheld camcorder form factor. Both models feature a 1” 4K CMOS sensor which is combined with a newly-developed 20x lens with 3-ring control, resulting in excellent imaging performance and shooting flexibility. And with a high-resolution viewfinder, imaging framing and focus control is easily achieved. The GY-HC500/550 cameras achieve up to 12 stops of dynamic range, with support for BT709, BT2020 and BT2100 HLG colour spaces.
Using the latest generation codec that’s also used in the GY-HC900 shoulder mount CONNECTED CAM, the GY-HC500/ HC550 can record to SSD media in a wide variety of formats, including 10-bit ProRes 422 at 4K resolution and 50/60p frame rates. A number of other codecs and recording formats are also available, including H.264 and MPEG-2, ensuring a wide range of workflows can be supported.
Both the GY-HC500 and GY-HC550 offer an advanced, class-leading set of IP connectivity functions, with both models offering live streaming, FTP file transfer, and remote camera control over IP. The latest CONNECTED CAM technology now adds return video over IP, high-quality IFB audio return, and the ability to stream at up to 1080p50/60 at 20Mb/s at less than 500ms latency, giving a uniquely high-quality contribution stream over IP, directly from the camera.
The GY-HC550 furthermore adds in an additional range of features, including built-in dual Wireless LAN antennas, built in broadcast graphics overlays, and Zixi protocol support for streaming applications.
The new GY-HC500 and GY-HC550 are scheduled to ship in early 2019, and add to the CONNECTED CAM range of products, with the GY-HC900 shoulder mount model shipping in October 2018.
Another new component in JVC’s video-over-IP workflow is the BR-DE900 decoder. It supports H.265 and H.264 compression standards and is built for portable use or permanent installation. When paired with JVC cameras, including the new CONNECTED CAM models, the BR-DE900 provides a bandwidth efficient, error-free streaming solution over any network, including the internet. Hardware-based decoding provides optimal quality of service with low latency for ENG field reports and other video-over-IP applications.
The BR-DE900 adds to JVC’s range of IP connectivity solutions which also includes the SFE-CAM-LTEA bonded video-over-IP system for multi-camera live broadcasts. Using technology partner Peplink’s SpeedFusion technology, the SFM-CAM2 bonds multiple 3G/4G/LTE and network (Wireless LAN and wired) connections and is central to the system, which becomes a remote broadcasting hub.
Cellular uplink and SpeedFusion creates a secure virtual private network (VPN) and allows the system to deliver live broadcasts of news, sports and other events. The result is an affordable, reliable and flexible mobile backhaul system.
JVC will demonstrate a number of new studio/ production monitors at IBC, each featuring 10-bit panels and 14-bit colour processing.
The DT-U31 is a 31-inch UHD model, while the larger DT-U31PRO is a 31-inch model featuring full 4K resolution. Both models can support both 12G SDI or quad 3G HD-SDI, along with HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2 for 4K input support. Thanks to their high resolution and four HD-SDI inputs, the DT-U Series monitors can also be used as quad-split displays, ideal for broadcast monitoring applications.
The DT-U31 and DT-U31PRO monitors both support HDR functions, including Hybrid Log Gamma 3D LUTs. Colour gamut support includes BT709 and BT2020, with automatic calibration possible via using an optional USB sensor which is connected directly to the monitor. Also supported are both waveform monitor and vector scope, together with 16-channel audio metering.
Also shown will be a technology demonstration of a high nit brightness model, utilising a 28” UHD display, for HDR applications where higher brightness image display is required.
The DT-U31 model is expected to be available by November 2018 with the DT-U31PRO following in early 2019.
