My IBC: Barbara Lange, founder and CEO, Kibo121

Former SMPTE executive director, and founder and CEO of sustainability consultancy, Kibo121, Barbara Lange, will (as ever) be playing an active role at IBC2023

What’s your typical IBC routine: what are you there to see/learn, who are you there to meet?

For many years I attended IBC as executive director of SMPTE. But now I am attending under my new consultancy, Kibo121, where I help media tech understand how to operate more sustainably. This year I will be meeting with media tech companies to discuss their sustainability needs.

I am also programming a three-hour session on sustainability for the IEEE BTS on Sunday, September 17. Mark your calendars!

Why is IBC important to you in a professional capacity, and how does the show compare to others on the calendar?

IBC is a major event in the calendar alongside the many others around the world. From NAB in April to BroadcastAsia in June and IBC in September, it’s great that the industry has the opportunity to focus on various regions of the world.

What are you most looking forward to at IBC 2023?

I am looking forward to seeing the progress being made in sustainability in our industry. We all have to do our part to have a bright future.

Barbara Lange will be chairing Unlocking Sustainability: Innovating a greener future in broadcast media as part of the Partner Sessions track, 2pm-5pm on Sunday 17th September in room E102. Contributors include Andy Quested; Madeleine Noland, president, ATSC; Dom Robinson, founder, Greening of Streaming; Bill Hayes, IEEE BTS; Larissa Gorner, CTO, Proximus Media House; and Elfed Howells, DVB. The IBC Partner Sessions are free to attend.
