Sony unveils BRAVIA XR with Netflix image calibration

Automatically produces lighting conditions intended by the content's creator

Sony has announced the new BRAVIA XR TV series, featuring a tool designed in conjunction with Netflix for automatically adjusting image quality.

The line includes the MASTER Series Z9K 8K and X95K 4K Mini LED, MASTER Series A95K, MASTER Series A90K and A80K 4K OLED, and X90K 4K LED.

Netflix Adaptive Calibrated Mode automatically adjusts image processing based on ambient light, in order to produce the lighting conditions intended by the content’s creator.

The series is powered by Cognitive Processor XR, using the XR Backlight Master Drive to precisely control a Mini LED backlight in the Z9K and X95K series. It also powers the A95K’s new OLED panel with XR Triluminos Max, reproducing natural shades and hues.

In addition, the range incorporates Acoustic Surface Audio+ for OLED models and Acoustic Multi-Audio for LED models, precisely matching the position of the sound with the images on screen.

Meanwhile the original camera device BRAVIA CAM recognises where users are sitting and optimises the picture and sound accordingly, incorporating gesture controls and video chat functionality.

Sony added its commitment to sustainability with the Road to Zero environmental plan, aiming to reach a zero environmental footprint throughout the life cycle of its products and business activities by 2050.

The company’s 2022 TVs use high recycled plastic content with Sony-developed SORPLAS, reducing overall “virgin” plastic use by up to 60 per cent. BRAVIA CAM also recognises when viewers are no longer in front of the TV and dims the display to conserve energy.
