Ateme has released details of its work to deliver a world first live immersive horse racing video stream.
The demonstration took place at an event held at Ascot Racecourse last Saturday, aiming to showcase how next-generation immersive video can deliver a heightened audience experience. In a collaboration between Racetech, Focal Point VR, Bluebell Opticom and Ateme encompassing capture, encoding, connectivity, and on-site deployment, selected VIP guests were presented with a real-time immersive race day experience.
Focal Point VR deployed a multi-8K sensor immersive camera system providing stereoscopic depth and clarity with 37 pixels per degree fidelity. Fibre connectivity was enabled by Bluebell Opticom linking the camera system and processing engine while Ateme’s TITAN encoder was used to process the ultra-high-resolution content in real-time, encoding directly into Apple MV-HEVC immersive format for playback on Apple Vision Pro. Operational integration was supported by Racetech and Ascot Racecourse.
Graham Badger, head of media and broadcast at Ascot Racecourse said, “This demonstration at Ascot showed the power of collaboration across the industry. Together this technology can push the boundaries of what fans can experience in real time, bringing people closer to the heart of the sport and making them feel as though they’re truly there. We see this as a major step forward, and we’re excited by the opportunities it will create for our audiences.”
Mickael Raulet, CTO at Ateme, added, “This exclusive pipeline sets a new standard for live immersive broadcasting. It demonstrates how ultra-high-resolution immersive video can be delivered live, bringing audiences closer to the action and enhancing the sense of presence at major sporting events.”
