IBC: The insider’s guide

This week, Tamsin Christofides, IBC's director of operations, gives TVBEurope a behind-the-scenes perspective on this year's show

My typical IBC routine

For the operations team, our IBC starts a week before the doors open and we’re working hard to ensure the venue, suppliers, and all our exhibitors are ready to open the show. It’s an early start every day as we welcome our show attendees, and this year we’ve opened up additional badge collection desks in hotels and the Amsterdam Centraal station to help reduce the morning queues.

Long before the show kicks off and throughout the year, we’ve been working with the RAI, our suppliers, hotels, Schiphol [airport] and the City of Amsterdam to make sure that Amsterdam is ready for IBC’s thousands of attendees. Our mission is to have all the logistics of attendance taken care of so that visitors and exhibitors can focus on networking and discovering innovation.

Why is IBC important?

It’s the pinnacle of everything we’ve been working towards, and we want to help exhibitors get the best ROI out of the show; we know how important a show like IBC is for the entire content and technology market. This year, we’ve enhanced our E-Zone so exhibitors can better tailor their show experience and access greater support from our dedicated team throughout the event; this includes new exhibitor options to upgrade their online presence, verify ROI with lead retrieval and add co-exhibitors. We’ve also worked on our attendee portal and app which allows attendees to guide themselves through the show using an interactive floor plan and set up meetings with key contacts.

I’m most looking forward to…

Being in a vibrant city like Amsterdam definitely has its perks, and I’d encourage all attendees to make the most of their free GVB travel pass to explore the city in the evenings.

We’ve taken onboard feedback from last year and are making measurable changes to improve the show experience for IBC2023, so we’re excited to see this all come together. We’re also really looking forward to re-connecting with our customers and exploring their feedback, thinking creatively about new ways to improve for IBC2024. We always have an eye on how we can enhance the IBC experience in the long-run, but right now, all eyes are on delivering a hugely successful 2023 show.
