Discovery’s HGTV launches in Germany

Channel's first European launch since Discovery acquired Scripps

Discovery is launching its HGTV brand in Germany as a free-to-air channel.

HGTV is part of the former Scripps suite of channels, acquired by Discovery in July 2017. The channel made its European debut in Poland two years ago, prior to the Scripps acquisition.

It will launch in Germany in June 2019, with Discovery saying it plans to launch the channel in other European territories, although no details have been given.

HGTV is the third most-watched cable network in the United States, and includes programming such as Flip or Flop and House Hunters.

Kasia Kieli, president and managing director, Discovery EMEA, said: “We are incredibly excited to be announcing the launch of HGTV in Germany and start using our scale and expertise across EMEA to expand HGTV and other key real-life entertainment brands into new territories and reach millions of new people throughout EMEA.”
