Warner Bros Discovery has revealed that across its Max and discovery+ streaming platforms, European viewers streamed one billion minutes of Olympics coverage on Saturday and Sunday.
The total number of unique streaming viewers for Paris 2024 on the company’s streaming platforms has already exceeded those from the entire last Summer Olympic Games, said WBD.
The opening weekend also saw Warner Bros Discovery set a new record for retail gross subscriber acquisitions in a single day across Europe, it added.
Eurosport’s average linear audiences across Denmark, France, Finland, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Sweden, and the UK have also increased compared to Tokyo 2020, up 98 per cent so far.
WBD said the launch of Max in Europe has helped drive viewers to its streaming services, with the platform accounting for 80 per cent of the total streaming audience to date.
JB Perrette, CEO and president, global streaming and games, Warner Bros. Discovery, said: “The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are off to a fantastic start, and the recent rollout of Max in Europe is fueling record-setting audiences and engagement. It’s still early days, so we’re excited to build further on this early success over the next two weeks.”
