Watch: Sky Sports uses AI to create ‘The Greatest Track on Earth’

The broadcaster's digital designers used specific prompts in generative AI creative platform Midjourney to visualise how the track might look

Sky Sports has employed artificial intelligence to create a video of what it’s describing as the ultimate Formula 1 track.

The broadcaster used AI technology to create a racetrack which features sections associated with some of the most memorable moments in F1 history, from the Swimming Pool chicane and Grand Hotel hairpin turn in Monaco,  to the Senna ‘S’ at Interlagos in Brazil.

Sky asked Formula 1 fans to vote on the famous landmarks they would like to see included in the track. The broadcaster’s digital designers used specific prompts in generative AI creative platform Midjourney to visualise how the track might look.

The AI images were then mapped onto a realistic version of the track as it would exist in the real world and a team of 3D designers, visual FX designers and artworkers created the animation.

According to Sky, the track comprises 10 different circuits that “encapsulate the global nature of the sport”.

Watch the video of ‘The Greatest Track on Earth’ below. The first Formula 1 race weekend of the 2024 season is available on Sky Sports F1 and NOW from Thursday, 29th February.
