Vestel is preparing to launch a range of Freeview Play TVs.

The move will significantly expand the presence of subscription-free, connected TV services in the UK, with Vestel working with Digital UK and Freeview to ‘make catch-up and on-demand services part and parcel of everyday TV viewing’.

Freeview Play is designed to make it easier to find and watch more TV content, offering both catch-up and live TV within the Electronic Programme Guide (EPG). The EPG’s scroll back function means that viewers can browse and access programmes broadcast in the past seven days from the BBC, ITV and Channel 4.

Through the Freeview Play apps area, viewers can enjoy subscription-free, on-demand content from BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4 and Demand 5, with more services set to be added soon.

Compatible with existing broadband services, the Vestel-produced Freeview Play TVs include over 60 standard definition broadcast channels and up to a further 15 in HD.

The Freeview Play range will include Full HD TVs as well as step-up 4K Ultra HD models with plenty of 4K content available through Netflix and YouTube.

Sadi Acikalin, UK commercial director, Vestel, said, “With this launch, we’re tapping into the real demands of consumers, offering a TV solution that can make the transition from linear to on-demand TV seamless and easy.

“Our partnership with Freeview marks our on-going commitment to meaningful innovation – real change that can genuinely transform and enhance the viewing experience of the majority of UK viewers.”
