LaLiga achieves YouTube Diamond Play Button

Accumulating more than 3,000 million views, LaLiga joins just 19 sports channels worldwide to have achieved the landmark, among them NFL, NB, UFC, Olympics and Formula 1

LaLiga has reached 10 million YouTube subscribers to achieve the video streaming platform’s Diamond Play Button distinction.

The Spanish league’s top tier becomes the first football league in the world to be given the status, which is second only to the Red Diamond Button – awarded upon reaching 100 million subscribers.

Accumulating more than 3,000 million views, LaLiga joins just 19 sports channels worldwide to have achieved the landmark, among them NFL, NBA, UFC, Olympics and Formula 1.

Alfredo Bermejo, director of digital strategy at LaLiga said, “This milestone is an example of the constant work to continuously adapt to the changes taking place in our industry, changing content and creating new forms of entertainment to continue providing our fans with what they demand from us. We are proud to be the first football league to achieve an achievement like this and it spurs us on to continue working along the same lines.”

Developed and managed by Grup Mediapro, the channel forms a part of LaLiga’s internationalisation strategy and has seen a year-on-year increase in subscribers since its inception 12 years ago.

The channel forms part of the wider LaLiga digital ecosystem, with more than 218 million followers. This season, it is supporting LaLiga’s strategy to bolster its relationship with fans, featuring content including short vertical video formats to complement a strong existing content base.
