Google is developing YouTube Connect, a new live streaming app capable of rivalling Periscope and Facebook Live.

According to VentureBeat, the app will offer similar functionality found with its soon-to-be rivals, and will available on both iOS and Android devices.

The development comes shortly after Facebook and Twitter were reported to be interested in expanding their live video markets to compete directly with YouTube.

YouTube Connect will allow users to log in to their Google or YouTube accounts and immediately begin streaming from their mobile phones.

Live videos will be available, with the ability to store broadcasts for future viewing, or to share the replay with connected users. However, there is a lack of social media links with Facebook and Twitter, so to exactly what extent content could be shared is unclear.

A release date has not been divulged, but VentureBeat reported that a launch before Google’s I/O developer conference in May would appear likely.
