Darren Aronofsky employs Google DeepMind to recreate the AI-merican Revolution

Primordial Soup, the AI Studio founded by director Darren Aronofsky, has employed the technology to create a YouTube series that recreates key moments from the American Revolution.

Each episode of On This Day…1776 uses a variety of generative AI tools, voiced by SAG actors, and has been edited, mixed, and colour graded by humans. Each episode is set on a pivotal date leading up to the American colonies’ declaration of independence 250 years ago on 4th July 1776.

The production utilised Slack to streamline collaboration between its global team of writers, designers, and AI specialists. It was made in part with AI from Google DeepMind.

The first two episodes have been released on TIME’s YouTube channel with more to follow.

“This project is a glimpse at what thoughtful, creative, artist-led use of AI can look like—not replacing craft, but expanding what’s possible and allowing storytellers to go places they simply couldn’t before,” said Ben Bitonti, president of TIME Studios.
