Avid adds agentic AI to its creative tools

According to the company, the decision to integrate Google's Gemini models and Vertex AI into Media Composer and Content Core, has been driven by user requests

Avid has announced it has entered a strategic partnership with Google Cloud, enabling the integration of agentic and generative AI into its suite of creative tools. Under the agreement, Google’s Gemini models and Vertex AI will be directly embedded into Avid’s Media Composer nonlinear editing system and its new unified intelligent data layer for global media assets, Content Core.

Driven by growing demand from production teams to manage large volumes of high-resolution media, the collaboration enables automated analysis and understanding of media content, allowing natural language queries, said the company. Additionally, agentic AI workflows are enabled, autonomously managing complex tasks including matching visual styles, identifying emotional cues in raw footage, and streamlining metadata logging.

Key features of the partnership include:

  • Avid Content Core: Acting as a unified data layer for global media, the solution leverages Google Cloud’s BigQuery, Vision Warehouse, and Vertex AI Search, transforming passive storage into an active library, allowing global creative teams to access and manage video files from anywhere.
  • Gemini integration in Media Composer: Avid’s editing system now features a multimodal extension powered by Gemini, allowing editors to streamline post-production—from intelligent metadata enhancement and automated logging to generating B-Roll—reducing the manual burden on creative teams.
  • Agentic search and discovery: With Vertex AI and multimodal Gemini models on both platforms, the systems can understand the context of every file. Searching becomes a natural conversation where users describe what they need—based on visual actions, dialogue, or emotional cues—accelerating content discovery times.
