Formula 1 to integrate OTT service onto PlayON platform

First time Formula 1 has bought into an external company

Having just announced the launch date for its new OTT service F1 TV, Formula 1 has now acquired a stake in games software specialist PlayON.

The deal will see F1 TV integrated into PlayON’s streaming service “at some point in the future,” according to Formula One director of digital and new business Frank Arthofer.

He told ESPN: “That will be an opportunity for fans to — we use the term ‘play and watch’, which we think is a really unique experience. So at some point in the future you will see that that’s made available to fans on PlayON’s platforms.”

The deal also sees PlayON become the sport’s official fantasy gaming partner, with two new fantasy F1 games immediately available for fans: Daily Fantasy Formula 1 and Traditional Fantasy Formula 1.
