Digital Catapult opens second Immersive Lab

Brighton-based lab 'gives access to the hottest technologies in VR, AR and MR to support the UK’s burgeoning immersive community'

Digital Catapult has opened its new Immersive Lab in Brighton.

The lab, which the company said ‘gives access to the hottest technologies in VR, AR and MR to support the UK’s burgeoning immersive community’ is the second to open following its London launch earlier this year, which has already hosted over 80 events.

The new lab will be available to businesses of any size, alongside researchers and investors, to demonstrate, innovate, test and experience the latest immersive technology and content.

Digital Catapult has chosen Brighton as a home for its second Immersive Lab after conducting ‘thorough analysis’ into VR, AR and MR clusters across the country. The company said that Brighton is one of the biggest immersive hubs due to its strong background in gaming, film and software and hardware development, and, due to this, the area has the greatest potential in the region and was the clear choice.

“Brighton is uniquely positioned to take advantage of immersive technologies because it is home to many disruptive companies operating in the creative and digital sectors,” said Phil Jones, lead at Digital Catapult in Brighton.

“The opening of the Immersive Lab here is part of the wider strategy to bring these organisations together and encourage their collaboration to accelerate the immersive industry’s growth both regionally and nationally.”
