Derby d’Italia will not go free-to-air

Sky Italia only owns the pay-TV rights

Sunday’s Derby d’Italia will not be made free-to-air despite the game being closed to the public due to the coronavirus, Lexology has reported.

The clash between Juventus and Inter Milan will go ahead behind closed doors, prompting Sky Italia to hold talks with Serie A over making the game available on its free-to-air channel TV8.

However, the move was made impossible as Sky Italia only owns the pay-TV rights.

The match is one of five Serie A fixtures taking place behind closed doors this weekend, after a decree was passed by the Italian Government owing to public health concerns.
