Vodafone and German public broadcaster WDR are joining forces to test the transmission of TV and VoD content over 5G.
They plan to transmit content in HD which will be available via mobile app.
WDR will distribute its content through a 5G test system which Vodafone intends to activate directly at a TV production facility.
The test will take place over the course of a year, and will last until the end of 2020.
The companies will initially test the data transmission at the 5G Lab in Dusseldorf and at the 5G Mobility Lab in Aldenhoven, before extending the trial next year to the city centre of Cologne, using Vodafone’s 5G network on the WDR campus.
