New tool aims to help organise VFX libraries

The libraries can store VFX practical elements as well as textures, reference images, clips from the internet or the matte painting library

A new piece of software has been launched that aims to help VFX teams manage and organise their asset libraries.

Das Element stores the main element in a VFX pipeline in an organised folder structure, creating proxy formats for preview purposes and saving them to a database.

The software enables multiple libraries to be created, which can be shared globally. The libraries can store VFX practical elements as well as textures, reference images, clips from the internet or the matte painting library.

Das Element includes a bespoke machine learning model that has been trained on thousands of VFX elements, in order for users to employ its auto tagging feature.

It also utilises a Category Hierarchy Tree specifically designed for VFX which leverages descriptions and synonyms from public domain sources. By using these synonyms, artists can search for similar terms and find the correct category, said the team at Das Element.

The software can also detect if an element has already been ingested, and lead the user to the location if needed.
