BBC selects Quantel for news

As part of its move to the new Media City development at Salford Quays near Manchester, the BBC has ordered a Quantel Enterprise sQ system for its news production.

As part of its move to the new Media City development at Salford Quays near Manchester, the BBC has ordered a Quantel Enterprise sQ system for its news production. As well as serving the regional news operation it will also support production of the popular show Newsround, which puts the day’s news into context for children.The Enterprise sQ will be integrated with the BBC’s Jupiter asset management system, an in-house development providing overall news functionality. The Quantel installation in Salford is equipped with 570 hours of HD storage, split across two zones for added resilience.The system supports 40 desktop editing and viewing seats as well as nine sQ Edit Plus craft editors. A further seven Final Cut Pro editors are integrated into the Quantel workflow. There are 12 HD-SDI input ports for video feeds, with five sQ Load, six Power Portal and two MXF Power Portal applications for file ingest. The system will play out live to air through two further Quantel sQ servers, under the control of Mosart automation.
