Storm Fagan named BBC chief technology and product officer

Fagan will oversee BBC Media Tech, a new division that will unite the broadcaster's product and technology teams

The BBC has confirmed Storm Fagan is to take on a new role, which will include overseeing a new BBC Media Tech unit.

The broadcaster has confirmed to TVBEurope that Fagan has been appointed chief technology and product officer.

The news first leaked in an email sent to all BBC staff by COO Leigh Tavaziva announcing her decision to leave the corporation.

“Today we are announcing the next important step in our transformation with the creation of BBC Media Tech. This new division will unite all our product and technology teams in public service with tech and product colleagues from BBC Studios into a single group team,” said Tavaziva.

She added that bringing together product and technology teams will help the BBC “reimagine how we create and deliver content across every platform and service”.

“Today, our technology capabilities are spread across multiple parts of the BBC, which can slow us down, create duplication, and make it harder to deliver seamless experiences to audiences. By forming a single division, we can focus our investment, make faster decisions, adopt shared tools and standards, and innovate quickly.”

Speaking about Fagan’s appointment as chief technology and product officer, Tavaziva said: “Storm is a pioneering leader who has delivered outstanding results in the product group and brings deep experience in delivering creative, audience-focused technology across the BBC and her previous organisations.”

Fagan joined the BBC as chief product officer in 2021. She has previously held roles at Just Eat and Future (TVBEurope’s parent company).
