Designs for the proposed Camden Film Quarter have been revealed.
Ahead of a planning application expected later this year, architecture studio SPPARC, in partnership with investors Yoo Capital, has unveiled its proposals for Camden Film Quarter. Adopted by Camden Council as part of the Regis Road Area Guidance in March, it aims to transform a 23-acre site in London’s Kentish Town with sound stages, post production suites, editing facilities and creative collaboration spaces.
Designed in response to demand from the global film and TV industry, Camden Film Quarter will be a walkable space for major media productions, the creative industries and local communities.
Combinable sound-insulated stages will be stacked above each other, allowing campus space to be maximised. The city centre location aims to challenge “the status quo of film studios as industrial sheds in remote locations.” The complex will include facilities for two film and TV schools, addressing skills gaps and offering young people a route into the industry.

A masonry facade will feature origami-style outdents that react in reverse to the indent sound cushioning on the interiors of six upper-level sound stages, said the company. The facility will be easily scalable to meet the evolving demands of a broad range of production needs across film, TV and digital media.
Trevor Morriss, principal at SPPARC, said: “Continuing Kentish Town’s legacy as London’s pre-eminent destination for the creative industries, Camden Film Quarter is the film and television campus the capital city has long been waiting for.
“Innovating for the industry with its stacked studios, and as the first of its kind in Europe and one of only a handful in the world, our masterplan seeks to re-imagine what film studios can look like. Conceived as inclusive civic buildings, our ambition is to deliver a vibrant, open neighbourhood that brings creative industries together with local communities by blending production space with living, education, leisure and high-quality public realm.”
