Grass Valley has announced new capabilities for Framelight X, extending its role within the company’s Dynamic Media Facility (DMF) approach as part of its Unified Media Operations strategy.
The platform enables teams to acquire, discover, enrich, edit, review and publish content without the need for moving between separate systems or creating additional copies. Extending DMF principles across the content lifecycle enhances connections between people, applications and media across locations.
Chris Partington, product director for content and editing at Grass Valley, said, “Every delay between acquisition, discovery and editing reduces the value of the content. Framelight X brings those stages together so news and sports teams can start working with media as it arrives, collaborate across locations and get the story in front of the audience faster.”
Field-based operation
Extending Framelight X into the field, the new iOS FLX Reporter app enables capture and contribution of news and live content from a mobile device. An integrated camera-to-cloud workflow enables transfer of media to newsroom teams while a journalist remains on location.
Framelight X Web Editor enables journalists, producers and editors to work with the same managed media in the browser. Features such as Multilayer editing, digital effects, branded graphics and multi-aspect-ratio production support delivery across linear television, websites, social platforms and more. Automated portrait tracking and resizing adapts landscape footage for vertical formats.
The platform integrates with EDIUS and Adope Premiere Pro, ensuring NLE workflows remain connected to the same managed content and approval process.Digital Joy Newsroom NRCS integration connects Framelight X media with exiting workflows.
Continuous record trains allow live sports feeds to be recorded as growing media, enabling editorial access before recording has finished and the creation of supporting content while the action is still underway. Integrating with OPTA sports data adds information while spoken content is searchable via automated speech logging. New Smart Search, an AI-based semantic tagging and search capability, enables location of media by meaning and context, eliminating the need to rely on filenames, manual metadata or timecode.
AI-assisted tracking, blurring and point-of-interest tools aim to minimise preparation work. Objects and areas of interest can be followed through a shot, with blurring applied to identities, screens, commercial marks or other visual elements where required.
A remote, browser-based over-the shoulder workflow allows producers to see and hear editing sessions without dedicated infrastructure, while commentary and voiceovers can be remotely added.
Share links enable external review without the need for full system access, allowing teams to work on the same content without transferring media between locations.
The federated architecture provides access to content across existing storage environments, with media remaining in place while teams search, audit and work with it across production sites and hybrid storage, minimising duplication and costs.
Native rendering and integration with Telestream Vantage and other workflow technologies extend this approach into processing and delivery, allowing actions to be coordinated through Framelight X as content moves towards publication, said the company.
Open Media Workflows
Grass Valley will preview TAMS Store support within Framelight X at IBC2026, enabling discovery, recording and management of time-addressable media as part of the wider workflow.
IBC2026 will also see Grass Valley preview TAMS Store support within Framelight X, enabling time-addressable media to be discovered, recorded, managed and played as part of the wider workflow. Framelight X adds media management, metadata and user access, presenting TAMS-based content through the same tools used for search, editing, review and publishing, said Grass Valley.
“TAMS creates an important open foundation for media interoperability, but interoperability only delivers value when content is easy for production teams to access and use,” said Regis Andre, VP engineering at Grass Valley. “Framelight X provides the management, discovery and workflow layer around TAMS, allowing users and applications to contribute, find and work with media without creating another isolated system.”
