Asharq News heads into the cloud with Grass Valley DR solution

The company has transitioned to a cloud-native disaster recovery (DR) solution powered by Grass Valley's AMPP Agile Media Processing Platform

Grass Valley has announced its solutions have been deployed by Asharq News, which delivers news and business coverage across the MENA region.

Building on its work to ensure future-ready infrastructure, the company has transitioned to a cloud-native disaster recovery (DR) solution powered by Grass Valley’s AMPP Agile Media Processing Platform. Initially launched for its History and Discovery services last summer, Asharq launched DR for its News channel in October.

The solution utilises Playout X and Framelight X for media asset management in a fully hosted offering, which aims to enable Asharq to manage its DR capabilities as a single monthly SaaS expense, eliminating the need for cloud infrastructure management. The unified foundation for both live and on-demand content delivery ensures operational continuity across Asharq’s platforms with the opex-driven model combining robust access with agility and peace of mind, said Grass Valley.

“Our vision is to operate with the highest level of reliability and flexibility across our entire media ecosystem,” said Omran Abdallah, CTO of Asharq News. “Grass Valley’s Playout X solution allows us to ensure business continuity from anywhere in the world, without the dependency on traditional hardware infrastructure. The SaaS model simplifies management and provides the scalability we need to grow with confidence.”

Commenting on the deployment, Hany Bartela, VP of sales for MEA at Grass Valley, said, “Asharq News has been a pioneer in adopting cloud-native broadcast operations in the region. Their continued investment in AMPP demonstrates the real-world advantages of software-defined workflows – from disaster recovery to full-time operations – that scale effortlessly to meet evolving demands.”
