Vodafone Deutschland reduces cable TV latency in time for FIFA World Cup

The company will utilise an early signal from ARD and ZDF that will be distributed directly via its cable network, without any additional processing steps

Vodafone Deutschland has introduced new technology to its cable TV network that will reduce the amount of time it takes for viewers of ARD and ZDF to see goals from this summer’s FIFA World Cup.

The ‘Jubel-Booster’ (celebration booster) reduces latency in delivering coverage from the tournament to Vodafone’s cable viewers.

According to the company, it will utilise an early signal from ARD and ZDF that will be distributed directly via its cable network, without any additional processing steps.

Fabrizio Rocchio, CTO of Vodafone, said: “We’re letting football fans cheer faster during the World Cup on cable TV. Thanks to the technical upgrade, the transmission delay is reduced by several seconds, so goals will be visible on TV screens via cable television faster than before.”

Vodafone previously implemented acceleration technology for live broadcasts of ARD and ZDF matches on its cable network during the 2024 European Championship. According to the company,  due to the optimisation, the signal was faster on cable TV than via satellite and significantly faster than most internet television services.

Vodafone is Germany’s largest cable network operator, reaching more than 24 million households and has over 8 million TV customers via its cable network.
