EFL and NAGRAVISION form defensive partnership against pirates

With the need to protect content a growing focus for the EFL, the NAGRAVISION partnership aims to monitor and disrupt pirate activity

NAGRAVISION has announced a collaboration with the English Football League.

The partnership aims to support the English Football League’s (EFL) efforts to disrupt and deter content piracy across all matches during the 2025/6 season.

With combating live sports piracy a key focus for the EFL, the agreement will see the organisation deploy NAGRA’s Streaming Security solution, utilising its dynamic monitoring and enforcement capabilities to protect the value of content, support member clubs and ensure the fan experience is optimised.

Deploying a range of technologies including multi-DRM and forensic watermarking. the Streaming Security solution aims to enable EFL to quantify the threat scale against its live content, also providing the league with anti-piracy intelligence to measure the impact of takedown and enforcement activities.

AI-enabled insights provide a holistic view of activity across rights holders’ portfolios, with 30 years of case history intelligence designed to directly address business goals such as revenue protection, brand integrity, compliance and licensing, said the company. The solution utilises a range of technologies including multi-DRM and forensic watermarking.

Commenting on the partnership, Russell Byrne, head of broadcast operations at the EFL said, “NAGRAVISION’s dynamic, real-time monitoring is an effective and important part of our work to protect our content, clubs and their supporters. The level of information available to us means we can better monitor, identify and take down illegal streams as they appear across various platforms, and ensure that we are providing the best possible experience to those that pay for legitimate services.”

Morten Solbakken, EVP and COO of NAGRAVISION, added, “NAGRAVISION is a long-time advocate of the need to protect the integrity of the content ecosystem for sports rights holders and works across the industry to achieve this. Our advanced anti-piracy monitoring and enforcement solutions empower rights holders such as the English Football League to combat illegal streaming and safeguard their revenues, ensuring true fans enjoy content securely and legally.”
