Disney will launch its advertising-supported tier on Disney Plus in the UK and select European markets in November.
CEO Bob Iger revealed the news as part of the company’s Q3 2023 earnings call, stating the ad-tier will launch on 1st November. The new ad-supported plans start at £4.99/€5.99 per month in Europe.
Iger revealed the ad-supported version of Disney Plus had attracted 3.3 million subscribers since its launch in December 2022 and so far 40 per cent of new subscribers have opted for the ad-supported option.
The CEO also told analysts that the company will begin looking at password sharing, and will “roll out tactics to drive monetisation sometime in 2024”.
Disney Plus reached 146.1 million total global paid subscribers at the end of June, down from last quarter.
