Bitmovin has released a range of upgrades to its Player Web X video player, designed to boost efficiency and unlock monetisation opportunities for news, publishers and social media platforms.
Advertising playback
Underpinned by Player Web X’s flexible Load Control API, advertising playback enables monetisation of short-form and social media content without the bundle size restrictions normally associated with ad-enabled players. Available with the solutions vertical video capabilities, the feature allows a mix of landscape and portrait content to be managed, unlocking ad revenue across all formats in a single, lightweight player.
Precise control over when and how sources – including streaming ad content – are loaded and sources can be configured to preload manifest or data segments independently. Main content and streaming ads can be simultaneously preloaded in the background, allowing near-instant transitions between content and ad breaks.
Packages and bundles architecture
Driven by its proprietary WISH adaptive bitrate (ABR) algorithm, BItmovin’s structured concurrency framework delivers 30 per cent faster startup time compared to open-source alternatives at. smaller bundle size, while its minimal footprint ensures fast page load and instant video startup.
Designed to enable developers to customise packages that extend, replace or remove exiting functionality, the Package API feature openly exposes the majority of internal states and components. Users are able to customise Player Web X to meet their own requirements, without the need to modify source code or involve Bitmovin.
Rather than reduce capabilities to minimise footprint, Player Web X delivers a fully featured bundle that is 26.63 per cent smaller than comparable alternatives, with advanced ABD and ad support included.
Commenting on the release, James Varndell, senior Director of product management at Bitmovin, said, “Player Web X brings together high-performance playback and advertising support in a single, lightweight package, with content and ad preloading that enables near-instant transitions between content and ad breaks. For news publishers and social media platforms managing a mix of landscape and portrait content, that complete capability comes in a lightweight bundle that keeps load times fast.”
