Spanish broadcaster RTVE has announced it will broadcast 20 games from the FIFA World Cup in 4K HDR on its free-to-air channel.
According to the company, this will be the first global broadcast of such an event in 4K UHD.
It predicts around 60 per cent of the Spanish population will be able to watch the matches, including those of the national team, in the higher resolution. The DTT transmissions will be available to viewers via channels La 1, Teledeporte, RTVE Play, RNE and RTVE.es.
RTVE said it has been testing the project for the past 18 months, working alongside a number of technology vendors.
